Nelson Igwe Uko of Soul Hunters Mission inc. popularly known as Rev Igwe Uko believes Nigeria would be a better place if gospel artistes live up to their calling. According to him, gospel singers are supposed to communicate good morals and God’s messages of peaceful co-existence and love for one
another. The Abia State indigene identifies greed as a major factor militating
against the growth of the industry, lamenting that a situation where an artiste releases a gospel album and later switches to secular music shows lack of focus. “Gospel music in my is the message of our Lord Jesus Christ; call it good news, which is musically expressed through praise, worship, hymns, spiritual songs etc.
If you listen to the track: i am worth more than the sparrow you will know that the moment you have good message, then the song will find its best way or style to expresses itself. seriously, in my Album tagged I KNOW, you will discover songs coming from the heart.
Nigerians are predominantly God-fearing people and so gospel music is readily appreciated. Gospel music is a very powerful tool for the much desired change in Nigeria. We know the country is bedeviled with challenges but with the right attitude, gospel musicians can rise up and speak against this challenges and perhaps point the society in the right direction,” he says.
He stresses that the genre has suffered compromise by practitioners, saying, “Because of the crowded nature of gospel music now I honestly think a lot has been thrown overboard, and because of economic hardship, in a bid to break even, most artistes try to sing what listeners want to hear.”
Speaking about his music,Igwe explained that his most recent tracks were borne out of the Bible and the relevance of his spiritual encounters.
Igwe Uko says the album coming out soon is meant to serve as a cold water to a tasty soul”
