The People of Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency has advocated that they be giving the privelege to Produce the next Governor of Abia State come 2023 as a means for compensating them for being the oil producing area of the state where the resource sustaining the state is coming from .
This position was contained in a communique issued after the meeting of political stakeholders of Ukwa East / Ukwa West Federal Constituency in an undisclosed location and made available to AFNEWS . According to them in the communique , the meeting held on 13th September 2020 involving political stakeholders of People’s Democratic Party PDP in Ukwa East / Ukwa West was necessary ” Following recent and extant political happenings in our dear state of Abia”
After the meeting . The stakeholders resolved that it would be necesary to let the State understand ” that we,the people of Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, that is Ndoki and Asa people, are, unarguably,a distinct Political Bloc in Abia State, with a distinct histo-cultural pedigree”
Futhermore ” That as a distinct Political Bloc,we are not,in anyway, unconscious or unmindful of our enormous contributions to the economic well-being of our state. It is on record that we have been contributing more than any other political bloc in Abia State,in terms of economic buoyancy, equity and peaceful co-existence and therefore the people of Ndoki and Asa, strongly believe that Governorship should be retained in old Aba Division that is Ukwa La Ngwa in 2023″
Other reason that necesiteted thier resolution is because of” what happened in Old Bende where governorship was held for sixteen consecutive years by core Bende and Umuahia group,it is therefore the turn of Ukwa people to mount the governorship of the state come 2023 and we are counting on Governor of Abia State,Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu and do certainly hope,he will impact positively on the welfare of our people, especially,in the areas of road infrastructure and employment, before the end of his tenure in May 2023″ they concluded.
