Sequel to his return from a foreign trip and subsequent upon fulfilling the mandatory NCDC prescribed two weeks isolation period, the Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof Gregory Ibe has commenced condolence visits to bereaved families of some notable Abians. Speaking while commiserating with the family of Elder Emmanuel Adaelu, over the untimely death of their son Engr. Alex Adaelu, Prof Ibe enjoined them to bear the painful and irreparable lose with equanimity and prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest. In his response, the father of the deceased Elder Emmanuel Adaelu thanked Prof Ibe for his love and care for the Adaelu family.
According to him, the Chancellor had many years ago surprised him with a ‘get well soon’ visit while he was receiving treatment in a medical facility in far away USA. He therefore prayed God to reward him abundantly while prospering his intentions.
Signing the condolence register in the country home of Chief Allen Nwachukwu, Prof Ibe bemoaned the lose of the political iroko asserting that the vacuum created by his death will be difficult to fill. Describing the late political strategist as ‘a friend and ally of many years’, the Chancellor sadly reminisced on the numerous social exploits of the ‘prominent Osisioma political technocrat’, which according to him ‘impacted the Abia socio-political landscape greatly’. He therefore enjoined the surviving children of Chief Allen Nwachukwu to be strengthened by the legacies of their father while emulating his good works, assuring them of his continuous support and assistance.
Arriving the residence of the Ogunji family, Prof Ibe regretted that the task of decontaminating public places in Abia state which the late Dr Solomon Ogunji, as commissioner for environment, passionately handled with a team from Gregory University Uturu seemed to be his last undertaking before death came calling. While recounting the plethora of strategic roles played by the late commissioner, especially in the act of governance in particular and the affairs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo by extension, the Chancellor lamented the unfortunate tragedy and prayed God to console the immediate family, the state and the Igbo nation.
He pledged comprehensive assistance to the burial arrangements and promptly announced the offer of tuition free scholarship to the late commissioner’s third son to enable him study in Gregory University Uturu.
Corresponds report that Prof Ibe was locked down in New York for a period of six months and one week due to outbreak of the novel COVID-19 global pandemic and subsequently was unable to visit and condole with families of many prominent deceased Abians earlier.
