...says it is a Remarkable Achievement
The President, Vision Africa International and Global Peace Award Winner 2013, Bishop, Dr. Sunday Onuoha, has lent his voice to the disbandment of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, branding it a milestone in the country's quest for respect for human rights.
The Methodist Bishop who stated that Nigeria cannot continue to be a nation where cases of human rights abuses are recorded on daily basis, described the dissolution of SARS by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu as commending owing to the fact that SARS has derailed in its responsibilities.
In a statement he personally signed and issued to newsmen, the Co-Chair Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, said the response of the IGP, means that the Federal Government is not ignorant of the yearnings and calls by Nigerians for a virile society, urging the Federal Government to leverage on the action taken on SARS, to attend to other pressing issues in the country that need urgent and immediate action.
Bishop Onuoha, also appealed to the IGP to ensure that any other formation that will be set up to take over from the disbanded SARS, will be made of men with good track records as well as people who will not default in their duties, terms of reference and above all, guided by the principle of rule of law and respect for people's fundamental rights.
He also commended the #EndSARS protesters for peacefully conveying their grievances in an orderly manner, urging them to show such comportment in the nearest future while showing their misgivings as violence has never helped any nation in achieving greatness.
