National Leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers issues 21-days ultimatum to Abia State Government

The Leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), National Head Office, Abuja has issued a 21-days ultimatum to Abia State government to fulfill all its outstanding entitlements and improve its conditions of service to her members in the state failure which teachers will down tool. The letter dated 2nd December, 2020 was signed by Dr. Nasir Idris, the National President and Dr. Mike Ike Ene, the secretary General.

In a letter signed by the State Chairman, Elder Comrade Kizito A. Kalu and the State Secretary, Comrade Mrs. Nnenna Okonkwo, the union decried the seeming nonchalant attitude of Abia State government to genuinely address the union's age long demands. 
The letter noted that all demands and appeals made and formal agreements reached in the past by the union were still not attended to by the government.

The National Leadership of the NUT felt disappointed that after their intervention and visitation on the invitation of the state government, whereby the impending strike action of February 2020 was suspended and agreement reached was also not honored instead the 9 months outstanding salaries of secondary school teachers has presently increased to 15 months while that of primary school teachers which was two months has staggered to three and half months.

The National Head Office however, directed teachers in the state to remain calm, mobilize and wait for further directives from the Union at the expiration of the 21-days ultimatum to the state government.

In conclusion, the union appealed to the teaming publics to wade into these situations and advice the government and its agencies to do the needful to avert this looming strike action.
