In a letter signed by the State Chairman, Elder Comrade Kizito A. Kalu and the State Secretary, Comrade Mrs. Nnenna Okonkwo, the union decried the seeming nonchalant attitude of Abia State government to genuinely address the union's age long demands.
The letter noted that all demands and appeals made and formal agreements reached in the past by the union were still not attended to by the government.
The National Leadership of the NUT felt disappointed that after their intervention and visitation on the invitation of the state government, whereby the impending strike action of February 2020 was suspended and agreement reached was also not honored instead the 9 months outstanding salaries of secondary school teachers has presently increased to 15 months while that of primary school teachers which was two months has staggered to three and half months.
The National Head Office however, directed teachers in the state to remain calm, mobilize and wait for further directives from the Union at the expiration of the 21-days ultimatum to the state government.
In conclusion, the union appealed to the teaming publics to wade into these situations and advice the government and its agencies to do the needful to avert this looming strike action.
