STAFF OF UMUNNEOCHI LGA EDUCATION AUTHORITY APPEAL TO GOVERNOR OTTI FOR PAYMENT OF 11 MONTHS SALARY ARREARS

Umunneochi, Abia State - Staff of the Umunneochi Local Government Education Authority, employed in July 2022, have appealed to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to intervene in the non-payment of their salaries for eight months.

The staff, who have not received their salaries since May 2023, have been pleading with the relevant authorities to pay their accumulated salaries. Despite their efforts, they have not received any positive response.

Speaking on behalf of the protesting workers, Mr. Okwudiri Esi, disclosed that they have gone on peaceful protests to the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Ministry of Finance, and Accountant General's office, but all they got was "hope" that they would be paid.

The workers are also requesting the issuance of their verification codes to enable them participate in the ongoing verification exercise for government employees.

Mr. Esi, who teaches at Lomara Secondary School, lamented that despite their dedication to their work, they have been neglected and left to suffer.

"We are pleading with Governor Otti, whom we voted for change, to please release our accumulated salaries from June 2023 till date. We still go to work, despite the challenges, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to survive without our salaries," he said.

The staff wondered why they are being treated with such difficulty, despite their commitment to their work, and appealed to Governor Otti to come to their aid.
