The Nigerian Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, has arrested a trafficker while allegedly making efforts to transport three ladies to Burkina Faso for prostitution.
The suspect, Favour Airhuoyuwa, 25, was arrested with the girls at Agunrege village on Saki Road, Oyo State.
Comptroller of NIS in the state, Innocent Akatu, who spoke through the Deputy Comptroller of the command, Abdulrahaman Salau, said, “Airhuoyuwa has been living in Burkina Faso for the last two years, and has established herself as the head of a prostitution ring.
“The victims were meant to expand her business network in Burkina Faso.”
Akatu said the arrest was as a result of the renewed drive of the command to rid the country of human trafficking and illegal entry through the state border.
He said, “Our officers at Agunrege, along the Saki Road, intercepted the trafficker and the victims on their way to Burkina Faso for prostitution and all of them have confessed to it.”
Airhuoyuwa said she had always been in touch with the ladies even when she was away in Burkina Faso.
She said, “I got the ECOWAS passports for them to ease their journey.”
The victims, aged between 17 and 20, and whose names were not disclosed for security reason, did not deny Airhuoyuwa claim that she told them that they were going to Burkina Faso for prostitution.
They also said they agreed to the term specified, adding that their parents did not know anything about the trip.
One of them said, “When I eventually knew the kind of work we would be doing in Burkina Faso, I wanted to back out, but it was too late because Airhuoyuwa said she had to recover all the money she had spent to help us get the travel documents.”
