The Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria TOAN Abia Chapter has listed and made public her newly elected executive members and charged then to be resolute in the discharge of their duties. Speaking to the press, TOAN secretary Mr Eddy Anyanwu said that
It has not been an easy journey so far, but God have been steadfast with us.
According to the Secretary, TOAN started with nothing in Abia State other than the dogged and fighting spirit of Comrade Emmanuel Idume the pioneer elected Chairman
of the Union in the State who was wrongly accused and removed from
office just about one year into his tenure and one Comrade Eze Nwachukwu was appointed as the Caretaker Chairman to succeed him. It wasn't long when the wolf in the sheep clothes of him was exposed, as he betrayed the already flourishing Union and sold TOAN to an unregistered and rival Association - ASATOA, now defunct. Comrade Eze Nwachukwu was also deposed as the caretaker chairman of the Association and Comrade
Emmanuel Idume cleared of any wrong doing by the National Executive council of our great Union. Ordinary, Comrade Emmanuel Idume would have been reinstated as the State Chairman of the Union to serve out his tenure as the pioneer elected chairman of the Union, but in his humility he chose to serve as a Branch Chairman and Vice Chairman to Comrade
Kingsley Ekeleme who was appointed to take over from Comrade Eze Nwachukwu as the State Caretaker Committee Chairman in the year 2018. It is worthy to note the Comrade Emmanuel Idume in his untiring desire to see that TOAN have a strong footing in Abia State, around June, 2019 called on some important Individuals in the tricycle industry In Abia State, like Comrade Enyinnaya Madumere, my humble self and others to come join him in TOAN Umuahia Branch and voluntarily relinquished his position as the Caretaker Chairman of Umuahia Branch of TOAN to Comrade Enyinnaya Madumere and I was made the Branch Secretary of the
same Branch having left my own position as the President of another
flourishing Association - KNOWA, to fully join TOAN from then forth.
It was after this strategic decision that the story of TOAN changed in the whole of Abia as there commences a very vociferous struggle to see that TOAN is officially recognized by the Abia State Government. Some of us were falsely accused of terrorism and belonging to unlawful and secret society called "TOAN" and charge to court and remanded in prison custody for weeks/months.
Our struggle and perseverance yielded a positive result on the 9^^ day of November, 2019, when the Abia State Government ably led by His Exellency Dr.Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, gave the Union - TOAN, a State Recognition to operate and do business in the State under strict regulation of the Ministry of Transport, Abia State, alongside two other Associations - ATRIWA & SATOA after placing a perpetual ban on the defunct ASATOA that
terrorized the existence of TOAN for years.
In the spirit of this new found freedom, the State Caretaker Committee was again dissolved and Comrade Kinsgley Ekeleme and I Chief Eddy Anyanwu were appointed the Chairman and Secretary respectively in the State with a full mandate to liaise with other stakeholders of the Union In the State to form a new Caretaker Excos for the Union to midwife a new Elected Excos, and established all the Organs of the Union in the State according to the provision of TOAN Constitution.
He stressed that their achievement includes among others, the delineation of operation in Abia State into Units, along the line of established 8 Branches:- Umuahia
North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Aba North, Aba South, Obi-ngwa,
Osisioma and Ugwunagbo L.G.As Branches.
