The State Government has affirmed it's determination in controlling storm water management system around Ndi-Egoro axis.
The Abia state Commissioner for Works, Barr. Bob Chiedozie Ogu, disclosed this while interacting with journalist when he visited the desilting sites around Ndi-Egoro Area of Aba.
The commissioner reiterated the state government's commitment to desilt and evacuate all the debris scooped out of underground tunnels to enable storm water to be discharged effectively and efficiently into Aba River.
He reminded Landlords and residents of the warnings by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) that flood will ravage many states of the federation in 2021.
Barr Ogu, condemned the undisciplined attitude of some landlords and tenants in disposing their wastes indiscriminately and in consequence, block the drainage channels, underground tunnels and cause flooding in the town.
He reiterated the government's readiness to arrest and prosecute offenders while advising Aba residents to desist from sabotaging the efforts of Governor Ikpeazu and compliment his giant strides to ameliorate the effects of the predicted flooding.
Conducting the commissioner round, the General Manager, Abia State Public Utility Maintenance Agency, Hon Abraham Akpulonu, applauded the efforts of the Governor in embarking on desilting of underground tunnels in Ndi-Egoro area which has not been desilted since it was constructed during the Mbakwe administration.
Also speaking, the project supervisor Barr Dike Ogbonna stated that preliminary study was conducted in making sure that flood empties into the Aba River.
Expressing their joy, the Chairman of Good morning market in Ngwa Road, Mr Esinna Ogbonna, Mrs Rita Ejiofor, Nwobilor Emenike and James Chinedu, all residents of the area, expressed gratitude to Governor Ikpeazu for remembering them noting that the desilting is a sign of relief from flood which ravages their area and enjoined other residents to reciprocate the government efforts by dumping refuse at government designated places.
Areas visited include good morning market by Emelogu bridge which is the discharging point of all the waters in Ndi-Egoro axis, Victoria Street, Ibadan by Alor street which has 40 by 80ft collection point for Ndi-Egoro flood management, Onyekwere street, Miliverton, Eziukwu, Okigwe and Osusu roads.
