Igbo World Union President Amb Sir Mishak Nnanta visits Equatorial Guinea and Gabon; celebrates Igbo Day with Diasporans

The President of the Igbo World Union (IWU), Amb. Sir Mishak Nnanta, KJW, popularly known as "Gburugburu Ndi Igbo Dum," recently traveled to Equatorial Guinea and the Republic of Gabon to join Igbo communities in marking Igbo Day. His visit was aimed at celebrating Igbo heritage, culture, and unity among the Igbo people living in the diaspora.

In both countries, Amb. Nnanta emphasized the importance of unity among the Igbo people, encouraging them to foster strong connections and cooperation. He urged the Igbo communities to maintain cultural ties with their homeland and support one another as they build their lives abroad.
A major highlight of the events in both Equatorial Guinea and Gabon was the conferment of chieftaincy titles on several distinguished Igbo leaders. These honors were awarded in recognition of the recipients' significant contributions to their communities and dedication to promoting Igbo culture and values abroad. The chieftaincy title ceremonies underscored the Igbo community’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its rich traditions, even while far from home.
The celebrations provided an opportunity for the Igbo diaspora to come together in a shared expression of pride in their heritage and reaffirmed their dedication to unity and progress under the leadership of Amb. Sir Mishak Nnanta.

During the events, Amb. Sir Mishak Nnanta stressed the need for solidarity, especially in challenging times. He called on Igbo people in the diaspora to remain connected to their roots, encourage young people to learn Igbo customs, and actively participate in community initiatives that uplift the Igbo identity globally. He highlighted that by standing united, Igbos abroad could create a strong support network, benefit from shared resources, and collectively contribute to development projects both in their host countries and back home in Nigeria.

The colorful Igbo Day celebrations in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon featured traditional music, dance, and the showcasing of Igbo cultural attire, further drawing admiration from attendees of various backgrounds. Cultural performances underscored the strength, resilience, and unity of the Igbo people, who, despite being far from Nigeria, continue to celebrate and promote their heritage.
The conferment of chieftaincy titles added a solemn note to the festivities, with each honoree pledging to uphold Igbo values and to support the IWU’s mission of fostering unity, peace, and progress. This symbolic act not only celebrated their personal achievements but also emphasized their roles as community pillars, reinforcing the IWU’s vision of a globally unified Igbo community.

As he concluded his visit, Amb. Nnanta extended his gratitude to the host communities and encouraged all Igbo people to work towards the common good, ensuring that the legacy of Igbo culture and solidarity endures for future generations. The events, he said, marked another milestone in strengthening Igbo unity across borders and highlighted the IWU’s ongoing commitment to empowering Igbo communities worldwide.
